BUYING GUIDE
A practical checklist before buying a used iPhone
Use online reports as one part of your purchase checks. They cannot replace inspecting the actual phone and confirming that you can set it up and use it.
1. Match the device to the listing
Inspect the phone, compare the identifier with any documentation, and ask for evidence of purchase. Our IMEI guide shows where to find it. Be cautious if you are only given a box photo or a screenshot.
2. Confirm that setup can be completed
Ask the seller to remove their account and erase the phone. Complete setup before paying. A phone still asking for the previous owner’s Apple account is not ready for you to use. Read Apple’s advice before buying a used device.
3. Review the restrictions you care about
Review Find My, carrier lock and blacklist information as separate questions. Do not assume a result from one check settles the others. Reports can be incomplete or change after the check time.
4. Test the hardware and your intended connection
Inspect the screen and body. Test charging, touch, cameras, microphones, speakers and buttons. Review battery information and try the mobile network or eSIM arrangement you intend to use where possible. A database report does not diagnose these parts.
5. Keep your purchase evidence
Keep the listing, receipt and seller details. Agree the terms before paying. Avoid a transaction if the identifier does not match, setup cannot be completed or the seller will not let you inspect the device.
